Woman in the Wind — Antelope Canyon, Page Arizona
About this Fine Art Print
Some images are found. Others are revealed.
This photograph was taken in Lower Antelope Canyon, where light and sandstone seem to move together—never quite still, never quite the same twice. Randy captured this moment during a guided tour with a Navajo guide whose stories gave shape to everything we were seeing.
It was the guide who pointed it out first—the subtle curve in the rock, the outline of a woman’s profile, her hair swept back as though caught mid-motion by an unseen wind. Once seen, it’s impossible to unsee. The canyon, in that moment, becomes something more than stone—it becomes story.
Lower Antelope has a different energy than Upper. It’s more intimate, more immersive. You move through it slowly, almost instinctively lowering your voice, as though the space itself asks for quiet. The walls rise and fold around you, carved over centuries by water rushing through narrow passageways—powerful, unpredictable, and shaping everything in its path.
Photographing here was a blend of patience and wonder—waiting for the right glow to illuminate the sandstone, and then seeing the human form emerge from the rock’s flowing lines. The result is both a tribute to the land’s artistry and to the generations of people who have walked these passages, interpreting and naming what they see.
