Mount Rundle Reflections

Should I stay or should I go? That was the question on a frosty February morning.

I left Canmore in the dark; the sky was completely overcast and I almost didn’t bother as it didn’t look promising. When I reached Vermillion Lakes, I wasn’t sure where to stop but I spotted another vehicle parked along the road. I found only one other person waiting by the shoreline, and a small open patch of water for reflections. I settled down to wait and hope for some colour.

At sunrise, the clouds briefly parted, allowing beautiful light to illuminate Mount Rundle and the sky with gentle colours. More people arrived just as the brightest light faded, but for a brief moment, it felt peaceful and silent; a reminder that sometimes it's worth heading out, even when the odds seem against you.

The stillness of winter meets the drama of dawn as Mount Rundle reflects in a fragile opening of water at Vermilion Lakes. A fleeting calm before the storm, the scene captures nature’s quiet power—where silence, light, and anticipation converge in a single moment.
