Bringing Mount Rundle Reflections Home
This is a photograph born from indecision that paid off. A frosty February morning at Vermillion Lakes, overcast skies, barely worth the drive — until the clouds briefly parted and soft light illuminated Mount Rundle for just a few quiet minutes. That fleeting quality is what makes this image special: a winter scene that feels both peaceful and alive.
The colour palette is distinctly wintry — cool blues and silvers in the frozen lake, soft pinks and mauves where the sunrise touches the clouds, warm tones on the mountain face. On fine art paper, the gentle winter light feels true and delicate, with the reflection detail in the open water beautifully rendered. Canvas softens the scene further and adds warmth, making it a lovely fit for a bedroom or reading nook. Metal or acrylic brings out the crispness of the mountain detail against the winter sky, and the contrast between the frozen and open water becomes particularly striking.
